Board gender diversity and workplace diversity: a machine learning approach

Purpose This study aims to examine the association between board gender diversity (BGD) and workplace relative importance of various firm characteristics in predicting diversity. Design/methodology/approach With a novel machine learning (ML) approach, this models three variables BGD using social media data set approximately 250,000 employee reviews. Using tools explainable artificial intelligence, authors interpret results ML model. Findings The show that has strong positive with equality inclusiveness dimensions corporate culture. However, is found have weak negative age company. Furthermore, find an important predictor value, indicating possible channel on how affects performance. Originality/value effects below management levels are mainly omitted current governance literature. existing research not considered different focused its aspects. In study, address problem at overall company level. reveals associations identifies key should be included as part theoretical causal future research.
